Handmade Christmas Pine Cone Ornament

As promised, I have a new ornament to share with you.  I have seen these made with fabric and thought I wonder how it would look made from Stampin’ Up Designer Series Paper?  So I tried it, and my hubby and I love how they turned out.

It only used less than 1 full 12″ x 12″ sheet of designer series paper.  It was super fun and super easy to pull together.

Let me tell you a funny story before I proceed.  I actually had these ready a couple of weeks ago.  One night hubby and I went to dinner (I had just finished these and left them on my table next to my recliner), when we came home, this is what I found!!  Why in the world my Chiwinnie would “ever” think these were something edible is beyond me!  There is obviously no taste or smell to these, or at least nothing I think she would eat, but alas she did!  Bad Sophie!!  Really though, look at that face, I just couldn’t be upset with her.  I know she didn’t know what she was doing.  I tell you, each ornament had about 200 pins in it, we kept an eye on her and prayed she hadn’t swallowed anything, so far she’s good.

I used the Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Series Paper for these two ornaments.  Cut them into 1″ strips, then again into 1″ squares.  Folded them to create a point at the top, then starting from the bottom adhered each square to my cone.  I also purchased some egg-shaped styrofoam balls and some fine tip dressmaker pins.   Let me know if a tutorial will help.

On this ornament in addition to using the Joyous Noel DSP, I used the Tranquil Tide 3/8″ Mini Ruffled Ribbon to create the bow and hanger on top.  You can probably use some store bought greenery as well.

Here is the second ornament, on this one I used the gorgeous Merry Merlot & Copper Ribbon.  Super easy to tie and one side is coppery and the other side is the merlot color only.

I hope I have inspired you to go create something beautiful and share it with someone.  I plan to make several more of these and give them away.  One of them I will give away here on my blog, so be sure and come back to visit.

I have included the products I used on this project for you below, simply select the item and you will be taken to my online store, or, you can simply download the supply list.

Blessings, and until the next time, remember to hug the ones you love, none of us are promised tomorrow!

  1. This is a fabulous use of paper! Kudos to you for this idea!! I’ve recently been attempting to make my own ornament out of fabric, but this gives me so many more options. Could a 3 inch ball be used for this instead of oval ? Your boat looks beautiful but very intimidating can you give me any pointers please.? Thank you so very much
